Cincinnati Grinds Out 27-16 Win Over Miami- Ohio

The Cincinnati Bearcats secured a 27-16 victory over Miami (Ohio) in the 128th Battle for the Victory Bell, reclaiming the bell and extending their dominance in this historic rivalry.

Key Moments Define the Game

Cincinnati capitalized on a costly Miami fumble early in the second quarter, recovering a botched punt snap and turning it into a quick 3-yard touchdown. That gave the Bearcats a 10-3 lead, which they never surrendered for the rest of the game.

The Bearcats’ running game came to life in the second half. Evan Pryor broke loose for a 65-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter, extending the lead to 24-10. Later, Corey Kiner iced the game with a critical 40-yard run on third-and-one, setting up a 50-yard field goal and a final score of 27-16.

Miami’s Effort Falls Short

Miami quarterback Brett Gabbert kept the RedHawks within striking distance, throwing for 339 yards and two touchdowns. However, Miami’s ground game was nowhere to be found, managing just 24 rushing yards. Gabbert’s seven-yard touchdown pass to Cade McDonald trimmed the lead to 24-16, but Miami couldn’t close the gap any further.

Dominating the Rivalry

With this win, Cincinnati claims its seventh straight victory in the rivalry, now leading the all-time series 61-60-7. Miami had won in overtime last year, but the Bearcats made sure to bring the bell back to Clifton this time.

The Takeaway

Cincinnati’s ability to shut down Miami’s rushing attack while finding big plays on the ground sealed this win. Despite some defensive lapses, the Bearcats did what was needed to control the game and take home the Victory Bell once again.
