Virginia Tech Pulls Away in Second Half for 31-14 Win Over Marshall

Second-Half Surge
Virginia Tech turned things around in the second half, pulling away for a 31-14 victory over Marshall. Bhayshul Tuten led the way with 120 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Kyron Drones contributed both a rushing and passing touchdown.

Second Half Explosion
Tuten started the second half with a one-yard touchdown run, giving the Hokies a 17-7 lead. Though Marshall responded with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Stone Earle to Christian Fitzpatrick, Drones’ 3-yard rushing TD and a 5-yard touchdown pass to Da’Quan Felton sealed the deal for Virginia Tech.

Tuten’s Impact
Tuten’s fifth career 100-yard rushing game played a major role in the Hokies’ 208 total rushing yards, controlling the ground game in the second half.

Marshall’s Struggles
After 549 yards in their season opener, Marshall struggled, managing just 278 yards against a relentless Hokies defense. Stone Earle completed only 13 of 36 passes for 129 yards, facing constant pressure from Virginia Tech’s defense, which logged two sacks and an interception.

Defensive Improvement
Virginia Tech’s defense bounced back from their previous loss, holding Marshall to just 5 of 17 on third-down conversions. Coach Brent Pry highlighted the defense's success and the key halftime offensive adjustments.

Looking Ahead
Marshall will need to fine-tune their offense before facing Ohio State in two weeks. Virginia Tech, showing a lot of promise, is setting a positive tone for the rest of the season.
