Virginia Tech Overpowers Old Dominion 37-17

Kyron Drones Leads the Charge
Kyron Drones showcased his dual-threat ability, throwing for a touchdown and rushing for another in Virginia Tech’s 37-17 victory over Old Dominion. Drones completed 15 of 26 passes for 176 yards and added 117 rushing yards on 12 carries.

Bhayshul Tuten contributed 115 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. Jaylin Lane caught seven passes for 106 yards and a touchdown, while kicker John Love added field goals from 21, 32, and 41 yards.

Early Success, Mid-Game Struggles
Virginia Tech started strong, scoring touchdowns on their first two possessions. Drones connected with Lane for a 25-yard touchdown and later ran one in from a yard out. However, Old Dominion fought back, with freshman quarterback Quinn Henicle scoring on a 65-yard run and a field goal by Ethan Sanchez cutting the lead to 14-10.

Second Half Adjustments
Virginia Tech regained control in the second half, with field goals on their first two drives, extending their lead to 20-10. Tuten’s rushing touchdowns of 16 and 22 yards sealed the win, and Love’s 41-yard field goal added extra points. Although Old Dominion’s Tariq Sims scored a late touchdown, it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.

Defense Shows Up
The Hokies’ defense forced two turnovers—one fumble and one interception—helping secure the victory. While not as dominant as the Frank Beamer era, the defense’s timely plays complemented the offense's strong performance.

Moving Forward for the Hokies
The Hokies’ ability to adjust and perform across all phases was evident in this game. Despite some mid-game struggles, their second-half resilience reflected growth. Coach Brent Pry emphasized the importance of responding to challenges, and Virginia Tech looks to build on this win as they move forward in the season.
