Kansas State's Gritty Win Over Tulane

Kansas State continued their impressive run in the 2024 season with a hard-fought 34-27 win against Tulane. The Wildcats demonstrated resilience and determination in a game filled with critical plays and intense moments. In a contest that came down to the wire, Kansas State managed to edge out the Green Wave, thanks to a clutch defensive play and a pivotal offensive performance.

Fabris' Fumble Return: A Turning Point

The defining moment came in the fourth quarter when K-State safety Jack Fabris made a game-changing play. After Tulane quarterback Darian Mensah was stripped by linebacker Austin Romaine, Fabris scooped up the fumble and raced 60 yards for a go-ahead touchdown. This crucial score shifted the momentum and highlighted Fabris' ability to be in the right place at the right time.

Controversy and Clutch Plays

With just 17 seconds left, Tulane looked ready to tie the game when Mensah connected with Yulkeith Brown for what seemed like a touchdown. However, an offensive pass interference call on Dontae Fleming nullified the play, leading to an interception by K-State's VJ Payne in the end zone.

Johnson and Giddens Shine Again

Quarterback Avery Johnson continued to build on his strong start to the season, passing for two touchdowns and performing well under pressure. His connection with DJ Giddens was key, with Giddens rushing for 114 yards and catching a 45-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 20. Giddens’ sixth consecutive 100-yard game showcased his importance to the Wildcats' offense.

Defensive Standouts and Offensive Struggles

Kansas State's defense came through in key moments, including Austin Romaine’s sack and forced fumble. However, Tulane’s Darian Mensah threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns. Despite Mensah’s success, his costly turnovers, including the fumble that led to Fabris’ touchdown, defined the game.

Tulane's Efforts and Kansas State's Resolve

Tulane’s offense, led by Mario Williams (128 receiving yards) and Makhi Hughes (128 rushing yards), moved the ball well but couldn’t capitalize when it counted. Kansas State's ability to force turnovers and make crucial plays under pressure proved to be better on this Saturday.
